And again the 365 days of the year 2014 are nearly gone and the contemplative Christmas time is omnipresent. The Team Holger Hetzel looks back to a very successful year 2014, which was shaped by several moments of achievements and happiness.
These moments will stay in our minds forever. Laura’s successful start at her European Championships in Italy, her gold medal at the Rhenish Championships, our winter indoor series and of course our successful 10th sport horse sales are just a few examples for emotional moments we really enjoyed. Our team did great work during this year and spent all their time and effort combined with 100% passion.
We very happy about the great results of our (former) horses, the great improvements of our clients and students and we’re proud that we were allowed to welcome guests out of the whole world at our stables. Without our team the year 2014 would not be that perfect, like it was. We could realize dreams and adventures and we are endless thankful for it. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you- our friends, customers and horse lovers - for your solidarity, your support and for your faithful cooperation. Without you and your trust our dreams and wishes couldn’t be realized.
A very Merry Christmas and the all the best wishes, good health, luck and success for you-my friends, clients and equestrian friends- for the New Year. Yours Holger Hetzel and team
One week ago we had the amazing anniversary of our 10th Sport Horse Sales and now we’re already preparing the next event. Next week we’ve the next show of our indoor series. The time- schedule for this upcoming show is online! The first class, the 1.10m class for young horses, starts at 8:30 a.m. in the morning. The main class, a 1.40m class, will begin at 6:15 p.m. Spectators are very welcome to attend the show! Click here to see more details.
Holger Hetzel’s 10th Sport Horse Sales in Goch generated record-breaking bids totalling EUR 3,115,000 for 19 horses. The top bid was placed by the Russian Equestrian Federation President for Holstein stallion Conquest, the German national show jumping champion of seven year old horses in 2014. As in previous years, the indoor arena at Holger Hetzel’s equestrian centre in Goch was packed full of auction guests, all there to see the 19 top class sport horses come under auctioneer Volker Raulf’s hammer. The anniversary event was an incredible experience with a unique atmosphere and famous guests from all over the world who obviously enjoyed themselves. Once again Holger Hetzel kept his promise to organise an unforgettable evening.
The two-hour auction of the 19 horses was buzzing with excitement and interspersed with fanfares. “All of them found genuine new owners,” confirmed the professional auctioneer. The auction proceeds amounted to EUR 3,115,000 and the average price was EUR 154,000, which is a new Sport Horse Sales record. The top bid of EUR 400,000 was placed for seven year old Holstein stallion and Bundeschampion Conquest by Caretino out of a Quidam de Revel mare. The dark bay stallion’s new owner is Sergey Maslov, President of the Russian Equestrian Federation. "In a world full of opportunities you ought to have the best horses,“ said presenter Carsten Sostmeier about this outstanding stallion.
With this beautiful competition stallion the Russian Equestrian Federation’s President will now have the world at his feet. The stallion will be ridden on the competition circuit by young rider Maria Madenova, who put in the winning bid on behalf of her employer and was obviously delighted to get it. Six year old show jumping miracle I’m Special was sold for EUR 385,000 to Ukrainian Alexandr Onyshenko, who now has a very special youngster with a Grand Prix future at his yard. Many horse experts agreed that this mare by Lordanos has a very promising competition career ahead of her. EUR 320,000 was bid for chestnut gelding “Wetten, dass…?“ by Stakkato, who will soon be travelling across the Big Pond to America.
Heidi van Thiel was also over the moon to receive a donation of EUR 18,000 for the children’s hostel “Spatzennest“ in Essen. It was donated by Russian Equestrian Federation President Sergey Maslov who bought "Glückskerl F" a life-sized horse made of 5400 horseshoes that had been provided by Andrea and Rainer Franken from Keppeln for this good cause. The patrons of the charitable project were Carsten Sostmeier with midfield player Patrick Hermann and his team mate Julian Korb from the Borussia Mönchengladbach football club. After the auction, Holger Hetzel commented, "If you convince people with quality the word spreads, and quality is my number one priority. I’m delighted that the horses have all found fantastic new owners and I’m sure they’re going to be very happy with them. They deserve it.” Some of the guests enjoying the buzz of the evening in Pfalzdorf included Goch‘s Mayor Karl-Heinz Otto, Chris Kappler (USA), Rory Marzotto (ITA), Theo Muff and Willi Melliger from Switzerland, Marc Bettinger and Vladimir Beletskiy.
The Birthday cake...
There were even world champions at the auction ringside this year, including a very impressed Jeroen Dubbeldam (Zwolle), who won two gold medals at the World Equestrian Games in Caen this year, two-times eventing world champion Sandra Auffarth (Ganderkesee) and her team colleague double Olympic gold medal winner Michael Jung (Horb). “I’m very proud of my team for their excellent organisation of the event and all the hard work they’ve put in," said Holger Hetzel, summing up after the very positive outcome of his anniversary auction. Now he’s probably already turned his thoughts to next year’s event.
„Glückskerl F“- a wonderful horse with a perfect pedigree, handmade out of horseshows, will be sold directly before the auction. This wonderful sculpture cannot jump like our auction horses, but it definitely will make the new owner happy. The sales revenue endures to the benefit of the „Kindernotaufnahme Spatzennest des deutschen Kinderschutzbundes OV Essen“, which gives 20 children aged between 2 and 12 a home, when they have been abused or battered by their parents.
Anticipation, adrenaline, gooseflesh, nervousness, fun, excitement… Only 24 hours to go till our 10th Sport Horse Sales will take place. Even it is our 10th auction, we can not speak about routine, we are still full of emotions. We’re still building everything to guarantee perfect conditions… 24 hours to go!
Chiara and Ludger Beerbaum
A few days before our 10th Sport Horse Sales we received great news about a former auction horse: Chiara is Germany’s most successful show jumping horse 2014! This year the 11yo Contender mare and her rider Ludger Beerbaum won 684.295,00€, an amazing amount! The second successful horse in Germany is teammate of the World Equestrian Games Cornet D’Amour/ Daniel Deußer (520.449€), third is Cornado NRW/ Marcus Ehnig (493.787€)- with a significant distance! A short reminder: Chiara has been sold at my 3rd Sport Horse Sales in 2007 as a four year old. I was absolutely convinced about this horse and was sure that she will be a top horse in the future- click here for the proof. Congratulation for this award!
There will be a special public demonstration of all auction horses on Sunday 30 November 2014 at 10 a.m. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to ride the horses and enjoy our typical hospitality at brunch. Some big names in national and international show jumping have said they’ll be coming to try out the horses that have caught their eye again under optimum conditions. That means we’re going to have a great programme and the youngsters will be able to demonstrate their talent one last time. The event is open to the public, so everyone is welcome to spend the first Sunday of Advent at our place. We guarantee there’ll be plenty to cheer about and applaud!
Laura & "Rita" by Marx
This weekend the traditional and most important indoor show for young rider take place in the „Albert Vahle Halle“ on the CHIO Aachen show ground: The Salut Festival 2014. The festive decoration of the indoor offers a great atmosphere and the numerous spectators complete the ambience. Young riders from Europe come to Aachen to compete in the challenging classes. Our daughter Laura competed yesterday in the qualification for the “HGW- Bundesnachwuchschampionat”, a 1.30m style class. With her mare Quanita Laura showed a great performance: a perfectly ridden round full of harmony with her mare. They were scored with an 8.8 by the judge and won the class. The next days Laura will compete in the junior classes and we’re very excited about the upcoming days. Anyway- the first class was already superb and we’re very thankful for everything we get.
The red carpet is waiting
We are putting the final touches to the organisation of our 10th Sport Horse Sales in less than one week’s time! This is an exiting few days for us and we’ve all got butterflies because the event so close now, but everything’s more or less in place. We’re really looking forward to the auction. Every single one of the auction horses is impressive and we’ve had some very positive feedback from customers who have tried them out, which we’re obviously delighted about.
Over the last few days the pretty village of Goch-Pfalzdorf has been undergoing its annual transformation into a rendezvous for international equestrian celebrities. Riders, sponsors and horse fans from around the globe will be travelling here to see this year's auction horses for themselves. There will be an endless coming and going of international professional, junior and amateur riders, all of them keen to try out the four-legged athletes.
The workers are quite busy- the ground has been placed, the tents are ready and the carpet has been laid…Exciting!
Abarlo and Isabelle Gerfer
Last weekend I had my last international show in the season 2014 at CSI3* Parma, Italy. Jumping Parma is an important International Show Jumping which is in its second edition after the great success of last year. Organized by Hernan Crespo and his wife Alessia Rossi the show was organized on a brilliant way: Best circumstances for horses and rider, a great atmosphere and an excellent atmosphere. Little Tinka and Check Me Out jumped quite good, but didn’t got a placement because of missing a little bit of luck. Legioner jumped again fantastically well and showed amazing performances. In the 1.50m Longines World Ranking class on Friday he was clear in the first round and I resigned the jump- off to take care of Legioner’s power and well-being. Yesterday in the Grand Prix (1.50/.155m) Legioner made me speechless again because of his scope and cleverness in the course. At the end he got a placement again and earned points for the world ranking. I’m really thankful for having Legioner and the other toppers in my stables. Now Romy is on the way back with her stars and then their well- deserved winter break starts!
In one week the traditional special public demonstration of all auction horses will take place. Next Sunday (30 November 2014) from 10:00 a.m. we will open our days for all interested people. There will be the opportunity to ride the horses and enjoy the typical Hetzel hospitality at brunch. Potential buyers who have identified their favourite horse in the collection are very welcome to try it out. During the last days, the pretty village of Goch-Pfalzdorf is transformed once again into a rendezvous for international equestrian celebrities. Riders, sponsors and horse fans from around the globe are travelling here to see this year's auction horses for themselves. There is a coming and going of international professionals, junior and amateur riders, all of them keen to try out their favourites.
Acrobatic, athletic, trustful, attentive, pursuing the same aim and a lot of fun- with these words our team picture can be described. This new, creative picture decorates the office since the “Making of 2014” attracts attention very day. Thank you very much Maik Wallrafen for making this impressive picture!

Breath deeply and regain strength fort he upcoming to weeks. At full speed to happiness in direction of the auction!

Unesco & Tobi
The weekend in Oldenburg at the international show “AGRAVS CUP” as been affected by success from the first till the last day. It was exactly to our taste, because our horses jumped fantastically well and were highly motivated.
Tobias rode the nine year old mare Velvet Brown (by For Pleasure), who is competing on international shows since this year and shows a great development. On Saturday in the international 1.45m class with winning round they were clear twice, became fourth and earned some valuable Longines World Ranking Class points. Also on Sunday Tobias collected important points for the World Ranking Class, when he became eight in the big Grand Prix of Oldenburg (1.45m/1.50m) with Unesco.
Simone & Wimosa
I competed with Legioner in the Grand Prix and my gelding showed again his jumping ability, motivation and scope. He is a real fighter in the course and always tries to do his best. My star was clear in the first round as well in the fast jump-off and finished second in this international Top class. Only Mario Stevens was 0.3 seconds faster than we, but we were proud of our silver ribbon. Honestly- I just love this horse! I’m not only happy about my own results, also Tobias performance on international parquet is a reason for being happy and our students convinced with their presentations in the international Amateur classes: Junior rider Simone Buhofer won with her mare Wimona an 1.40m class and placed second in an other 1.40m class. With her gelding Riosco she was placed in a 1.40m class and in the saddle of the seven year old Crescendo Simone was placed in all classes she competed in (1.25m-1.35m). Carolin Becker rode also very nice and got a placement in a 1.40m class with Prudence de Beaufour.
Last Thursday our rider Kathi changed her breeches with an evening dress and drove to Warendorf, dirction “Deutsche Olympiade-Komitee für Reiterei”. The reason? Kathi received the Stensbeck award for her great result at the final examination of her apprenticeship. We’re very proud of Kathi and we’re very happy that she stays at our stable as a rider. Congratulations again!
Celline & Stefanie Bistan by Dill
Celline, auction horse 2011 „Simply a Princess“ and her young rider Stefanie Bistan finished second in the Grand Prix of CSI2* Ebreichsdorf last weekend. With two great clear rounds they really deserved the great success. Also Smint (auction horse 2012 “Snickers”) and Noemie Goergen have been successful on an international show: They were placed in the Grand Prix of CSI2* Opglabbeek and earned important Longines World ranking class points. Crystal and Maximilian Bremicker finished seventh in the Final for 7yo horses.
The possibility to make the entry for our second show of our winter series has been closed. We’re very happy to announce that a lot of national and international have made their entry for our show and we’re proud to welcome them. In the morning the youngster classes will take place, we will start at 8:30 a.m. The 1.40m class (Springprüfung Klasse S*) will start at 6:30 p.m. We’re looking forward to next Tuesday, we’re ready to go! Click here for more information!
This year’s auction horses know how to convince of themselves during the training sessions every day again. Today we would like to share our enthusiasm for the six year old “Cartani’s King” (catalogue nr. 5), who showed again that he has the scope to clear fences of any height with ease. After that the cat-like horse passed the little “Caprilli Test” and we were even more excited. Have a look:
On Monday Henner Hoeschen and his camera team from ClipMyHorse visited us at my stables in Goch. I’ve had a very interesting conversation with him about my Sport Horse Sales. We also watched some archive documentations about the four year old Chiara in 2007 and the try out inclusive spontaneous applause of Kleiner Onkel in 2009 and talked about it. Henner’s team produced a great film let: Eight minutes full off impressions, competence and an interesting review and preview for this years auction. Enjoy watching!
Last weekend one of the most beautiful indoor shows opened the doors fort he 17th edition for the international show „Munich Indoors“. The Olympic hall offers a breathtaking setting and a lot of international riders competed in the CSI3* classes to become “Rider of the year”. I rode Little Tinka and Legioner and both did a really good job, even we missed a little bit of luck. Legioner was placed in a 1.45m class and I’m really satisfied with him. My student Simone also showed great performances with her horses in the international Amateur classes. With Riosco she became third and sixth in the challenging 1.40 classes.
Tobias and Unesco
Friday morning Tobias was focussed on training the young horses, before he went to Leverkusen to compete in a 1.40m class with Unesco and Velvet Brown. A lot of riders competed at the national show and the courses were quite difficult. Tobias was very pleased with the performances of his four- legged partners; both were clear in the first class and got a placement. On Sunday Tobias entered in the Grand Prix, a 1.45m class with winning- round. Both horses didn't disappoint by showing great clear rounds in the challenging 1.45m class, all in all 8 horse- rider combinations completed the course clear. Unesco finished second in the Grand Prix and he really deserved this great result. Also Velvet was in super form and became sixth.
Actually our riders and grooms are very busy with taking care and training of all horses- not only the 21 auction horses need a lot of attention, also the other ones ask for the perfect care. The entire team is highly motivated to fulfill the desires of the jumpers- and it works perfectly!
All youngsters have moved into their boxes at our stables and enjoy the professional care of our team. All horses convince us during daily training with their above-average qualities; it is just fun to ride them. Every single horse just deserves it to make it into our strictly-selected auction lot.
It is said that ‘the luck of the earth lies on a horses back’, this year’s exclusive auction with its outstanding selection of top class sport horses will only verify this. We also provide comprehensive information and data about every single horse, each of which has been personally tested and approved, plus impressive videos of the horses competing so that potential buyers can see their performance in the ring.If you wish to make an appointment to try out your favorite please do not hesitate to contact us, everyone is welcome. On Sunday 30 November 2014 an official presentation of the auction horses will take place at our stables.
Once upon a time... on a warm September evening in 2005, we were sitting outside chatting to friends about an idea I had to hold an “open day”. One thing lead to another, and we decided it would be good to stage a small-scale auction in addition to presenting the yard and the horses to the public. So that’s what we did.
Although the outdoor auction on the grass arena was intended to be “just for fun”, ten horses were sold and it generated a great deal of interest. So that’s how it all started out. Modestly but wholeheartedly.
So September 2005 was the month when the foundations were laid for what would evolve into an internationally recognised sport horse sales event. The first auction was held outdoors. Over the last ten years, the guest list has become a “Who is Who” of the international show jumping elite, people who enjoy the event’s unique atmosphere and the opportunity to see and buy high quality young horses of international calibre. The organisers’ credo, “Quality can never be high enough,” is reflected in the event’s new venue, the impressive new indoor school that was built in 2013. It’s an incredible story and we're very proud of it!
This year again we don't have just an auction catalogue: It not only provides you with information about the horses in the collection, but also contains general information about the event, the concept and the service philosophy of us. There are statements, interviews and a lot of nice, colourful pictures- an outstanding product! The new auction catalogue grants you a look behind the scenes and introduces the whole stables. Catalogue + magazine= you need it!! You don’t have the auction catalogue? Order it right now!
Actually we’ve great autumn weather and the warm sun is more than great. We obviously gear our training concepts to competition riding, but we also ensure that the horses do lots of different activities so that they don’t get bored. We’re delighted that we’ve the possibility to use the racetrack of the Heisterfeldshof, which is close to our yard. One round is 1,6km, so a fresh canter is guaranteed. The horses have really fun when cantering one round after the other and honestly also we rider have a lot of fun. It’s good for the soul and the motivation! We like!
Exciting rounds, top horses and emotions running high - what more could a show jumping fan want? Holger Hetzel also hosted two very well-attended shows during the spring and summer months. In fact they were so popular that he’s decided to continue them. A and B squad riders such as Kathi Offel, the Hendrix Stables and guests from Qatar have already asked about future shows. So Holger Hetzel obviously doesn’t want to disappoint them.
We will be hosting a series of seven indoor shows at his equestrian centre between October 2014 and March 2015. There are fewer and fewer indoor shows and the ones that are still being held aren’t always good quality, that’s why we decided to take advantage of our great facilities and put on shows during the indoor season! The first show yesterday was a great success- we’re looking forward to the next show!
On Wednesday, 3 December 2014 we will celebrate a great jubilee: Our 10th Sport Horse Sales will take place. The horses are selected, the videos and pictures fort he catalogue and DVD have been made- the auction time has begun! This year’s selection of exceptionally talented horses that will fulfil your dreams is presented on this Website with pictures, videos and information. The collection is the most impressive ever and includes a total of 21 exceptional sport horses aged between four and eight, all of which are spectacular in their own right. We can not wait to present you the exceptional horses. Save the date and make a big X in your calendar.
