2016 has without doubt been an amazing year for so many reasons! It has been a hugely successful year for me, my daughter, my team and our students and I will enjoy reflecting on it with family and friends over the festive season. Our team did great work during this year and spent all their time and effort combined with 100% passion. We very happy about the great results of our (former) horses, the great improvements of our clients and students and we’re proud that we were allowed to welcome guests out of the whole world at our stables. Without our team the year 2015 would not be that perfect, like it was. We could realize dreams and adventures and we are endless thankful for it. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you- our friends, customers and horse lovers - for your solidarity, your support and for your faithful cooperation. Without you and your trust our dreams and wishes couldn’t be realized. Christmas for me is a lovely time to catch up with friends and family and just go on "a go slow" for a few days. Hope you all have a good Christmas and wishing you every happiness for 2017.
Legioner and his power nap
Last weekend I competed at CSI3* Frankfurt which was as usual a top class show, well run with a full house packed each day into the grand hall. The atmosphere, the arena, the enthusiastic public and the Christmas feeling make this event so special. The spectators are what make the show happen. They come year after year, creating a unique atmosphere which encourages the riders to try harder. It has been a lucky show for me also and it was great to return this year and become third in the Grand Prix with Legioner. My gelding was super on Sunday, he jumped out of his skin in the Grand Prix, recording one of only four double clear rounds with a fabulous third rank in the 1.55m ranking class. Also Come to win and Dalli Dalli jumped great and made me happy and proud. The horses are at home for a break and I’m sure the horses and our staff will be glad of our little break and quiet Christmas days!
During the last months we worked hard and very concentrated for the 30th November 2016, especially during the last weeks and days nobody spared time and hassled to prepare everything for a perfect event. Tents have been set up, floors has been laid, furniture was deployed, lightning installation have been suspended, and everything was decorated and brought into a high gloss. The whole work was worth it: We are still speechless from our 12th Sport Horse Sales and the outcome of it. Now, a few days later, there aren’t any marks to see. The auction last week was a great success and more successful than ever before. The whole team around me did a great job. I would like to thank all involved parties- everyone was always motivated, worked with enormous pleasure and made an important contribution to the success! All signs of “our day of the year” are gone and the beloved contemplative Christmas season started. Time flies… but for sure we will live on memory for a long time; with a satisfied and proud feeling.
Even it's from 2015, have a look to this 2 minute Time- Lap from the set up and teardown!
Only 48 hours after the auction the first auction horses have been delivered to their new and happy owners. During the weekend further auction horses have been collected and they already moved into their new home. We received already several happy SMS as well as pictures of the auction horses in their new stables. We are glad for the new riders; they have the honour to train extraordinary horses in the future and for sure they will have a lot of fun with the horses. However, melancholy resonates with us all. The past few months we watched the unique horse’s development and their enormous processes they made and how they formal grew up. This fact fulfils us with grand pride. Our team in the stable took an amazing care of the horses and all horses became a part of our big family, so that either way saying goodbye felt hard. All of us would like to congratulate the new owners again and we wish you a lot of pleasure and success. We look forward to follow their career!
This year’s Sport Horse Sales hosted by Holger Hetzel (56) at his yard in Goch delivered an excellent result, with the 21 horses in the collection changing hands for a total of EUR 3,514,000 and a top bid of EUR 450,000 for Danish gelding Hulapalu.
I’m delighted when summing up the 12th Sport Horse Sales at my equestrian facility in Goch. The event was the product of an impressive teamwork effort and, unsurprisingly, it surpassed all expectations again, not least because of the first rate quality of every single young jumping horse in the collection. Among the audience waiting for internationally renowned auctioneer Volker Raulf to bring his hammer down for the first time in the stylishly converted indoor arena were two Olympic gold medal winners, Michael Jung from Germany and Chris Kappler from the USA. Michael Jung (34), a multi-talented eventing rider who’s equally at home in dressage, jumping and eventing saddles, listened to a tribute from my friend and regular guest at the Sport Horse Sales events, horseman and trainer Chris Kappler (49), who also won a team gold and individual silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens - so it was a tribute from one Olympic medal winner to another.
Then Volker Raulf took over the mike, saying: “If it’s quality you’re looking for you’ve come to the right place,” and all the guests sitting at the white-clad tables around the auction arena fell silent. Deluxe Edition, the bay seven year old Dutch gelding by Catoki, with Caletto I and Landfriese in his pedigree - catalogue number 1 - sold for EUR 280,000 to a Russian buyer. Dutch-bred mare Be My Baby, whose sire is Azteca VDL by Indoctro I and turns seven on 1 January, went to Viersen for EUR 150,000, followed by grey gelding Peek a Boo by Lucky Boy, a horse with Holstein genes from the Lavall II – Landgraf I lineage on the sire’s side and Contender – Calypso II genes on the dam’s side, which sold for EUR 100,000. The hammer went down at EUR 110,000 for thoroughbred-type gelding Stay With Me (6), whose pedigree boasts both Indoctro and Grannus. He‘s going to be stabled in Spain in future. Two of the auction lots were purchased by a young rider from Hesse: Dutch chestnut gelding Enorm, sired by Spartacus by Stakkato out of a dam by Ultimo, for a price of EUR 205,000 and shortly afterwards Belgian gelding Mountain Man (8) by Tangelo for EUR 380,000. Enorm will be ridden by Henrik von Eckermann (35) of Sweden - the first Swedish rider ever to win the coveted Grand Prix class at CSIO Rome on Gotha and the man who rode for Ludger Beerbaum for twelve years before setting up business on his own at a yard in Bonn leased from Karl Schneider. If his Stakkato genes come through, Enorm is going to be an enormous success. Saudi Arabian Prince Turkui did his bidding on the phone to secure Holstein gelding Mac Uwe (6) for EUR 200,000. Holger Hetzel commented: “That’s the first time I’ve ever spoken to the buyer.” When bidding commenced for six year old dark bay Hanoverian gelding Bonfire, Hungarian Ferenc Szentirmai (33) who rides for the Ukraine kept his mobile phone glued to his ear. And he didn’t let it go again until he’d put in the winning bid of EUR 185,000 for this horse by Quintero. German businessman Frank Auer was obviously infected by the atmosphere of the event and in excellent spirits. He and Maja Möltgen have several jumping and dressage horses and both are active riders. Volker Raulf’s hammer - which used to belong to his uncle, a physician - went down on the wooden table no less than three times for Frank Auer, who is now the proud owner of Girl on Fire by Van Gogh (EUR 85,000), Rhineland mare Cristalla by Cristallo II (EUR 300,000) and Danish gelding Hulapalu (5) by Heartbeat. Outstanding jumping horse Hulapalu was the horse that sold for the highest price of EUR 450,000 at the 12th Sport Horse Sales. One of the nicest stories of this Wednesday evening, 30 November 2016, involved a dentist from Duisburg who got so carried away by the music playing that she bought seven year old grey gelding Easy Lover for EUR 80,000....The average price for all 21 horses in the collection was EUR 167,330. It was a genuinely ‘legendary’ evening.
TODAY is the day. Today is the day of our 12th Sport Horse Sales. You can not believe how excited we are. All horses are fit and healthy, the indoor looks great and we can't wait for the evening. Starting at 5 p.m. the impressive collection will be presented under the riders for the last time, commentated by TV commentator Carsten Soestmeier and me. The most interesting part of the evening, the auction, takes place after the gala dinner at approx. 9 p.m. The order of sales is not the order in which the horses are listed in the catalogue and will be announced on the day of the auction. If you can’t make it to the auction, why not watch the presentation of the horses and all the excitement of the bidding on the Web. It’s being broadcast by ClipMyHorse.tv.
Anyone who can’t make it to the auction can watch the presentation of the horses and the bidding on the Web. It’s being broadcast by ClipMyHorse.tv.
The order of sales will be presented on this Website during the afternoon.
Yesterday we had a wonderful first Sunday of Advent. A lot of interested guests, a relaxed atmosphere, super riders and- which was the most important for us- amazing horses. The official presentation of the auction horses was really fun and especially the satisfied riders gave us a reason for being proud and happy. Finally we’ve only two days to go and we’re really looking forward to our 12th Sport Horse Sales on Wednesday!
This weekend the traditional and most important indoor show for young rider takes place in the „Albert Vahle Halle“ on the CHIO Aachen show ground: The “Salut Festival 2016”. The festive decoration of the indoor offers a great atmosphere and the numerous spectators complete the ambience. Young riders from Europe come to Aachen to compete in the challenging classes. Our daughter Laura competed yesterday in the qualification for the “HGW- Bundesnachwuchschampionat”, a 1.30m style class. Laura rode the beautiful mare Everybody’s Darling (auction horse 2012) in the qualification for the final class and won this class with the score 9.0. In the final class Quanita has been entered. With her mare Laura showed a great performance: a perfectly ridden round, full of harmony. They were scored with an 9.3 and won also this class. Two wins with incredible scores with two different horses, you can not believe how proud we are! The next days Laura will compete in the junior classes and we’re very excited about the upcoming days. Anyway- the first class was already superb and we’re very thankful for everything we get.
“Oh, this horse has been sold at Holger Hetzel’s Sport Horse Sales?” “This horse was owned by Holger Hetzel before?” “Holger Hetzel found this horse as a youngster?” These sentences are just some examples and we’re proud to be able to say “YES, this Grand Prix horse has been sold at our auction”. We don’t just sell horses at our auction, we also caters to an international clientele during the rest of the year. To his delight, all the horses we’re sold are winning and competing successfully at showground’s around the world. Ultimately, whether they’re jumping 80cm courses or international 1.60m courses, it’s the rider’s satisfaction with the horse’s performance and their individual achievements that count. Some horses have competed in championships from regional to European level this season. During the last days we’ve updated the references on our website. Click here to have a look to our former horses, the faces of their riders and the performances!
In one week the traditional special public demonstration of all auction horses will take place. Next Sunday (27 November 2016) from 10:00 a.m. we will open our days for all interested people. There will be the opportunity to ride the horses and enjoy the typical Hetzel hospitality at brunch. Top international riders from Germany and abroad have said they’ll be coming along on Sunday to try out one or two of the horses under optimum conditions. So there’ll be a full programme on Sunday and the young horses will have a last opportunity to persuade potential buyers. The event is open to the public, so everyone is welcome to spend the first Sunday of Advent at my place.
The countdown is on, only one week to go! In seven days my twelfth sport horse sales will take place- it is still exciting and connected with much excitement as the first time!
Today the setup starts, the tents, traverses, ground and so son will build up during the next days. We are hammering, drilling, cleaning, planning and building ...
The clippers are working all day long, outside the indoor you can hear the four-legged contented snorting and I actually moved a part of my office into the indoor, because I don’t want to miss one second of the training and trying of the delicious auction horses. We can’t wait for it, our anticipation is enormous. Only the 21 auction horses are quiet and showing their quality every day again!
ur picturesque village Goch has been an international rendezvous for some of the big names in the equestrian community for weeks already. Riders, sponsors and horse fans from around the globe have travelling here to take a look at this year's auction collection. The four-legged athletes are being tried out by successful international professional riders as well as juniors and amateurs, all of them eager to gain their own personal impressions of the horses’ qualities. Whatever the weather, the atmosphere inside the indoor arena during the try-outs is always enjoyable. All the riders obviously feel very much at home there and the horses have been performing fantastically. As a show jumper and horse enthusiast I’m thoroughly enjoying watching them. Potential buyers can take their time in trying out the horses that have been selected in advance to reflect their individual needs before the auction. They also get comprehensive information about every single horse from my team, plus impressive competition videos of all the horses. If you want to try the horses- give me a call at +49-171 480 8668, every interested person is very welcome to come to our traditional special public demonstration of all auction horses next Sunday.
… with happy winners, highly satisfied competitors, interested visitors, wonderful horses, excellent sport and worldwide known rider. One thing is fact: We’re still very happy with our decision to realise a winter show series for the third time! It was a pleasure for us to welcome international top riders and that they gave us compliments made us very proud and confirmed us. Again we have to say thank you for all people supporting us, to our team, which makes impossible things possible and also our sponsors and supporters!
Also at the stables there are more and more signs that the auction is not far away: Since last week the big pictures of this years auction horses decorate the big indoor and remind us every day to the big event. It looks stunning and makes us even more proud!
Thirteen year old student Ingemar has had a great result again (click here to read more): Last weekend he won the Swedish Championships in Helsingborg. With his pony Ocean de As the highly talented boy showed clear rounds in all challenging courses and was honoured with the well deserved gold medal. With pony Atlas, normally ridden by his little sister Ellen, Ingemar won the silver medal in an other classification.
While Ingemar was back at school in Sweden, his ponies Ocean des As and Atlas were trained to perfection by our team for the show during the last weeks. The ponies travelled with their groom to Sweden, who also took care of them at the showground until Ingemar arrived with his parents when school was out. Christine flew to Helsingborg to coach Ingemar. Perfect management, perfect team work!
This year Ingemar and his gelding “Olle” won already the gold medal at the Scandinavian Championships and a team silver medal for Sweden at the FEI European Championships for Ponies. This gold medal is an other highlight in this season!
And now: new goals will be defined for 2017!
The daily work at home in Goch is just fun. On one side there are the 21 auction horses, which make much fun because of their magnificent qualities. Each youngster impresses with great rideability and exceptional willingness to learn, so we are repeatedly confirmed with our selection. Of course the other horses also give us a lot of fun during daily training and enjoy the competition break. Also the satisfied customers, who obviously feel comfortable here when trying out the (auction) horses, enjoy us enormously. The great labor is completed by our super team that despites the lot of work with the best atmosphere and ensures the perfect welfare of the horses. We love what we do!
They have arrived! Yesterday the van of the printing company “DRUCKEREI KARTEN” arrived and everyone directly knew: the auction catalogues 2016 arrived. Then the work began and with combined effort it was a pleasure to finalize the end- product. With very good mood and full of joy the team started working as every year: invitations and catalogue in the envelope, envelope closed, post stamp on it and directly into the yellow post box. Everything went well and fast- experience shows it. Now, after two days, all of the catalogues are on there way to the customer or just ready to give them away for the next weeks. If you want to have your personal catalogue with a lot of pictures and reportages, you can order them here.
Last weekend our 16yo Laura headed to the “German Youth Trophy” in Warstein and topped of another successful show at the wonderful show ground.
Both Polly Pocket and Pres D’Ici were in super shape and jumped fantastic. On Saturday Pres D’Ici produced a clear round in the 1.40m to finish tenth. Polly Pocked showed her amazing talent and jumped clear in all rounds. Due to their double clear in the challenging 1.45m team class Laura and Polly Pocket helped the team to finish fourth. The ten year old mare also jumped outstanding in the Junior Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. They had one time fault finishing ninth in this class.
This year again we don't have just an auction catalogue: It not only provides you with information about the horses in the collection, but also contains general information about the event, the concept and the service philosophy of us. The new auction catalogue grants you a look behind the scenes and introduces the whole stables. Catalogue + magazine= you need it!! You don’t have the auction catalogue? Order it right now!
Now this year’s distinguished collection is waiting to go out into the big wide world. It includes 21 exceptional horses aged four to eight with impressive track records that are ready for the next stages of their careers. Nothing was left to chance in the selection process, so all horses conform to the most stringent of quality criteria and the excellent collection includes show jumpers for all requirements. I’ve got a very special and motivated team. With their help, stringent selection criteria and my ability to recognise quality horses, I think we’ve managed to put together an excellent collection - and I’m sure you’ll agree with me when you see it. Every single one of the young horses we’ve selected for you is unique, and some of them are championship winners. At the end of this week the collection horses will be presented to the public. All the horses were 100% convincing at the video shoot and they cater to a wide range of rider requirements. I can’t wait to present the horses!
I’m more than proud to have a team like mine and now it’s the time to say THANK YOU to everyone. They all feel as if they are part of one big family and they all feel at home at our stables. Each one of them makes a special personal contribution to the running of the yard, they all live for the horses and have committed to a life with the horses. Without them, their passion and their enthusiasm, it would be impossible to run an operation like our competition and training yard. It’s a close-knit team in which each member is part of a greater whole that functions because everyone assumes responsibility and shows respect. They're all part of the Hetzel family. Thank you for supporting every step, I can’t wait for the auction with you at my side!
