"Groom’s Award" – Appreciation for the Hheroes behind the scenes

While top-level sport takes center stage in the arena, it is the grooms who perform extraordinary work behind the scenes day in, day out. Without their tireless dedication, neither the smooth running of a tournament nor the success of horse-and-rider partnerships would be possible.

At this year’s Tiemeyer x Hetzel Young Horse Masters, this commitment was honored for the second time in a very special way. With the support of Manuela and Uwe Schmitz and FRANKONIA Eurobau AG—who also conceived this wonderful initiative—the Groom’s Award was once again presented. Five grooms, selected by an anonymous jury for their exceptional dedication, calm handling of the horses, and strong sense of responsibility, were awarded a prize of €500 each during a special ceremony on Saturday evening. In addition, thanks to the generosity of the Schmitz family, all participating grooms received complimentary meals throughout the event.

Hetzel Horses GmbH was proud to support this initiative by offering free breakfast to all grooms each day. Another highlight: the grooms of the top three horses in each final were invited to join the podium during the prize giving—a truly emotional moment, warmly celebrated by the audience.

These gestures go far beyond mere symbolism. The Groom’s Award is an important step toward greater visibility and recognition for a profession that is absolutely essential to the world of equestrian sport.
