"Would I like to keep him myself?"

This year’s collection includes 21 horses, aged five and above, all from outstanding bloodlines. And they all share one decisive quality: in principle, Holger Hetzel would gladly keep any one of them himself. What may sound unusual is in fact based on a clear philosophy. Nations Cup rider Hetzel explains it like this:

“I always ask myself: Who will the future customer be? And – would I personally like to have this horse in my own stable? Am I genuinely excited to see this horse when I walk into the barn in the morning? When I can answer yes, I know I’m completely at peace with myself.”

Trust is the foundation

Holger Hetzel and his team know the auction horses intimately, and that attracts top riders from the international circuit. Remarkably, 95 percent of the horses are owned by Hetzel himself. The collection is never assembled at short notice, but carefully curated based on quality, health, training level, and potential. Over many years, Holger Hetzel Stables has built long-term relationships with clients. “My long-standing clients are joining us again this year,” Hetzel emphasizes. “That has a lot to do with trust and nurturing those relationships. And new clients are coming as well.”

These long-standing connections and the experience that comes with the have also shaped the comprehensive range of services offered. Even those unable to travel to Goch can rely on extensive information about every single horse, provided by the team: from individual assessments to personalized videos and veterinary reports. There is also support for purchasing horses as an investment, post-sale services, travel assistance, and accommodation arrangements.

The entire region benefits from this entrepreneurial commitment. The city of Goch known both for the hand-stitched footballs of Derbystar and for the horses and events at Holger Hetzel Stables values this highly. When the 20th Show Jumping Horse Auction begins on November 26, hotels in the surrounding area will be fully booked. This often starts days before, as on Sunday, November 23, at 10 a.m., all auction horses will be presented to the public by the Hetzel team riders. Interested visitors are warmly welcome.
